THE STORY OF THE ROUTE
Your journey begins right from our base, just meters away from the sea, where the sound of the waves slowly fades as the engines come to life.
Within minutes, the asphalt disappears.
You enter a raw, untouched side of Thassos — passing through old marble quarry roads, a reminder of the island’s long history of marble extraction that shaped both its economy and its landscape.
As the route climbs higher, the scenery transforms.
The air becomes cooler, the terrain rougher, and soon you find yourself surrounded by a deep green forest of pine and wild vegetation, far from the crowded beaches. Thassos is known for its dense interior forests and mountain terrain, giving the island a wild and untouched character away from the coast.
A first pause.
From above, the island unfolds beneath you — Golden Beach, the coastline, and the endless blue of the Aegean.
This is where most people realize:

The climb continues.
Rocky trails, narrow passages, and open ridgelines lead you to the highest point of the island — Ipsarion.
At 1,204 meters above sea level, Ipsarion is known as the “roof of Thassos” and offers panoramic views across the entire island and even as far as Mount Athos on clear days.
Clouds often move through the summit, creating a surreal, almost cinematic atmosphere — a place where nature feels untouched and powerful.
From the summit, the route descends through winding off-road paths.
The terrain softens, the forest thickens, and the sounds of water begin to appear.
Hidden within the mountain lies a small natural oasis — the Apostoloi Waterfalls.
A peaceful stop surrounded by plane trees and lush vegetation, where crystal-clear water flows into a natural basin. The waterfall, though modest in height (around 3–4 meters), is one of the most authentic and tranquil spots on the island.
Here, time slows down.
The final stretch brings you back down towards the coast.
The mountains fade behind you, the air warms again, and suddenly the sea reappears.
You return exactly where you started — back at the shop, next to the beach — but with a completely different perspective of Thassos.
